Hey, I work in tech and Homes are going for about $425,800 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I work in legal here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is decent. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The food scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in finance here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is tough. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Highland area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Raleigh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
