OK so With a population of 98,958, Longmont is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,755 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What would you do? TIA! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in West area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 6 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (South) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor recreation is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 11 years. Moved from Seattle for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Chain restaurants dominate. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Downtown for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
- The nightlife scene is solid
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
