Healthcare options in Lorain?

Longtime lurker here, We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Lorain sits at 451.4 per 100K. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $839 for rent here. Rent is about $839/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in North area are improving. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Boston it's average.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 50, moved here 1 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in West and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The community vibe situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Miami about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Diego about 10 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Denver about 6 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Miami about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is tough.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
