Remote worker thinking about Lorain

OK so The median home value here is around $123,500, which is actually reasonable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do? Thanks for reading.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 7 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is average - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The dating scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
