Cost of living reality check -Los Alamos

Random thought, We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $458,200, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $136,502 in Los Alamos. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Anyone in a similar situation? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Southern.
