Rent is about $1,304/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $458,200 on average. Household incomes average around $136,502 in Los Alamos. It's a a small town city with about 13,471 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? TIA! The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Denver about 11 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Came here for weather and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The outdoor recreation is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
