Anyone else feel this way? With a population of 30,736, Los Altos is a smaller city. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Houston it's excellent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 1 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 41, moved here 2 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Pine Hills and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Property taxes are high
3. The cultural scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in government here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is better than expected. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
