Considering Los Altos Hills vs Memphis -help me decide

Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Came here for school and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is tough in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Dallas about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
