The good and bad of living in Los Altos Hills

Hey, We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $3,501 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Los Altos Hills sits at 34.8 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in The Heights for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- The school system scene is average

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a sales manager and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.
