Anyone else feel this way? My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $2,969 for rent here. Homes are going for about $2,000,001 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any help is appreciated. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Meadowbrook area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The public transit scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..
