Came here for school and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The weather is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to San Francisco it's decent.

Used to live on the North side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Meadowbrook area are average. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is solid in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've lived in South for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The traffic scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Riverside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
