Hi all, I'm retired and The weather takes some getting used to. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Atlanta about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Riverside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Eastside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The weather is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.
