I'm a nurse at the local hospital and It's a a small town city with about 5,034 people. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What do you all think? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely average and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
