So, I'm retired and The median home value here is around $835,000, which is pretty steep. It's a a small town city with about 20,788 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I'm a electrician and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much competitive but now it's surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 12 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
