Housing market in Louisville/Jefferson County — is it worth buying?
Median home value here is around $221,500. Prices are reasonable compared to major metros. For those renting, typical rent is $1069.
Is now a good time to buy in Louisville/Jefferson County? Or better to keep renting?
Looking for opinions from both homeowners and renters.

As someone who moved here from Philadelphia, I can confirm most of this. The cost of living surprised me the most.

Don't sleep on Highland Park. It's up and coming and still affordable.

I'd add that the school system has been improving steadily. Otherwise spot on!

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Lakewood and Highland Park are perfectly safe.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Check out the Riverside area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Old Town. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Rent tip: look for places in fall. Prices drop and there's more availability.

If you can afford it, University District is the best place to live. Period.
