The most Louisville/Jefferson County thing ever

Hey everyone,

Transplant from Pittsburgh. Been here 12 months now. The food scene in St. Matthews is honestly incredible.

Median income here is around which {inc_feel}. I'm paying /mo for a 3-bed in St. Matthews and honestly seems high for what I get.

What I like:
- Great food scene
- Good parks and trails
- Good internet

What I don't:
- Traffic is getting worse
- Hard to date here
- Property taxes
- Wind never stops

Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable. The community in St. Matthews is really tight-knit.

Roast me or validate me, I can take it.

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.

I moved to Old Louisville from New York about 12 years ago. Initially I loved it immediately. But after settling in, Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable..

A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Old Louisville and Butchertown for housing
- Explore beyond the popular neighborhoods
- Download the local transit app even if you drive

The biggest adjustment was dating scene. Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. Overall I'd give Louisville/Jefferson County a 6/10 for students.

Gonna share a detailed perspective since most replies are pretty surface-level.

I'm a single guy in Germantown. Been here since 2017. The parks system here is underrated..

Neighborhood-wise, Germantown has really grown in the past few years. Prospect is the up-and-coming spot right now. St. Matthews is where I'd look if budget is a concern.

Job market for logistics: improving. For real estate: established.

Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year.

Not to be negative but the food scene is overrated. I still like living here overall though. Just keeping it real.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Louisville/Jefferson County.

Background: 34, freelancer, moved from Detroit 7 years ago for a fresh start. Currently in Highlands.

**Housing:**
The market is improving right now. We went with Highlands because great school district. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at NuLu - it's lively and the value is better.

**Work:**
legal jobs are competitive here. I was worried coming from Detroit but the market is solid. Salary-wise, expect about 10-15% less than coastal cities.

**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 3 months were tough. Then I found my people through a board game night. Now I have a solid group. Louisville/Jefferson County people are warm once you break through.

**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: manageable
- Traffic: not as bad as people say
- Dining out: surprisingly excellent
- Entertainment: you make your own fun here

**Would I move here again?**
I feel like {city} is becoming more expensive without getting better.. For retirees, I'd give it a 8/10.

Feel free to DM me with specific questions - happy to help fellow newcomers.
