Household incomes average around $67,872 in Lovejoy. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I work in healthcare here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is underrated. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much wild but now it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The school system scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in East for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is average
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
