Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $86,793, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $305,200, which seems about average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I overthinking this? Thanks! Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 44, moved here 7 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Sunset and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much established but now it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Charlotte about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
