Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and Median household income is $92,986, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,080/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..
