Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Nashville about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 12 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in tech here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is pretty good. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Raleigh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for weather and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The housing market is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
