Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 9 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I work in healthcare here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is better than expected. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Eastside area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Italian places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cost of living is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
