First post here. With a population of 115K, Lowell is a mid-size city. Crime rate is something to consider -Lowell sits at 363.5 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Should I be concerned? Cheers. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
