Hey, You can expect to pay around $1,603 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $395,100, which seems about average. With a population of 115K, Lowell is a mid-size city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Old Town for 6 years. Moved from Nashville for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Can feel isolated. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 10 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much wild but now it's decent.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
