First post here. We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider — Lubbock sits at 1,008.1 per 100K. Average temperature is around 64°F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Is this normal for Lubbock? The weather takes some getting used to.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Homeless population growing downtown. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The cost of living scene is decent
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..
