Best kept secrets of Lucas, TX

Hey folks, The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Lucas sits at 95.5 per 100K. With a population of 8,040, Lucas is a small town. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is improving in most areas.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The community vibe scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
