Hey folks, Homes are going for about $162,600 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Lufkin sits at 517.5 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Thoughts? The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is pretty good in most areas.
