Been meaning to ask this. I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $43,114, which feels on the lower side for the area. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I overthinking this? Thanks!

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.
No regrets on my end..

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The walkability is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely average and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
