Random thought, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 13,803 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Should I be concerned? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is decent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 7 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
