What to expect moving to Lynbrook?

Hey, I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $138,866 in Lynbrook. Median household income is $138,866, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $592,400 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. What are your go-to spots? Thanks! Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Downtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 38, moved here 5 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Oak Park and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Mediterranean places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Nashville it's average.
