Housing market in Lynchburg — is it worth buying?

Median home value here is around $211,800. Prices are reasonable compared to major metros. For those renting, typical rent is $1043.

Is now a good time to buy in Lynchburg? Or better to keep renting?

Looking for opinions from both homeowners and renters.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Coming from Miami, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Midtown. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

As someone who moved here from Atlanta, I can confirm most of this. The cost of living surprised me the most.

If you can afford it, Maple Heights is the best place to live. Period.
