The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. Has anyone dealt with this? Appreciate any input.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is decent in most areas.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (North) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely challenging and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much manageable but now it's better than expected.

I'm a social worker and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.
