Is Lynn walkable?

I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 10.7%, which is around average. It's a a mid-size city city with about 101K people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much affordable but now it's surprisingly good.

I work in education here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is decent. No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Miami about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Highland) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
