Random thought, Has anyone dealt with this? Property taxes are high but you get good services.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is tough in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 29, moved here 8 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Springfield and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The outdoor recreation situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Riverside for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Diverse dining options
- The dating scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much reasonable but now it's average.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Seattle it's better than expected.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.
