Been meaning to ask this. Crime rate is something to consider -Macedonia sits at 219.0 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Any advice would be great.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Eastside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
