Is Machias walkable?

Median household income is $127,043, which feels pretty solid for the area. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Would love some local perspective.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Boston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in The Heights for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The school system scene is average

The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 5 years. Moved from Raleigh for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is improving - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Far from beaches/mountains. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Springfield for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- The housing market scene is solid

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..
