How is Macomb for outdoor activities?

Alright, I'm a teacher here and With a population of 15,006, Macomb is a small town. Homes are going for about $99,800 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Chicago about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is tough.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
