Grocery stores in Macon-Bibb County — recommendations?
Been meaning to ask this. I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 18.9%, which is higher than I expected. Median household income is $50,747, which feels on the lower side for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any advice would be great. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The healthcare is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much reasonable but now it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is tough in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from San Diego about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
