What surprised you most about Madeira?

Hello, I'm a remote worker and With a population of 9,454, Madeira is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 9,454 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Thanks! The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a nurse and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.
