Madison is underrated, change my mind

I'm a 49-year-old lawyer and The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Thanks in advance! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Portland it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in consulting here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is pretty good. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.

No regrets on my end..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
