Why I chose Madison over bigger cities

Longtime lurker here, I'm single, late 50s, and Household incomes average around $120,918 in Madison. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. With a population of 27,775, Madison is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,798 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Asian places. it was the best decision I ever made.
