Alright, Median household income is $76,983, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Houston about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (West) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
