Top 5 things I love about Madison

We're a young couple and Median household income is $76,983, which feels about average for the area. Anyone in a similar situation?

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 14 years. Moved from Minneapolis for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Homeless population growing downtown. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 12 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 3 years. Moved from Nashville for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is improving - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Chain restaurants dominate. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Baltimore about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Riverside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like seafood.

No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 58, moved here 13 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Fairview and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The community vibe situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been here 8 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is surprisingly good.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
