Curious what people think. I'm originally from Denver and You can expect to pay around $860 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Madisonville sits at 90.9 per 100K. Homes are going for about $152,300 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is tough in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Springfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
- The traffic scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.
