Job market in Maitland for tech?

Curious what people think. Been living here since 2013. Poverty rate is 8.8%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts.

I've been in Westside for 9 years. Moved from Atlanta for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Bugs and humidity in summer. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

Background: I'm a chef, 29, moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in North and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The outdoor recreation situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Highland) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
