Longtime lurker here, Median household income is $63,291, which feels about average for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What do you all think? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in government. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Highland for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cost of living scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
