Curious what people think. Born and raised here. Homes are going for about $607,500 on average. With a population of 65,509, Malden is a smaller city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Baltimore about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Downtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is average
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
