Hey, I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 8.3%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $3,501 for rent here. Household incomes average around $192,159 in Malibu. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Hope this helps!.
