Alright, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Maltby sits at 70.1 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is average in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Atlanta about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Uptown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
