Not sure if this has been asked before, but We have two kids and It's a a small town city with about 10,859 people. Poverty rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in engineering. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I work in consulting here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is better than expected. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I've lived in Fairview for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The housing market scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is pretty good in most areas.
