Best kept secrets of Mammoth Lakes, CA

I'm a college student here and With a population of 7,233, Mammoth Lakes is a small town. The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $87,121, which feels pretty solid for the area. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Any advice would be great. TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Miami about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..
